Vinous 90 points - Bright red-ruby. Currant, black cherry, tobacco leaf, mocha, licorice and menthol on the nose, all lifted by a floral topnote. Tightly wound today, with a streak of acidity currently keeping the wine’s dark berry, plum, mint and wild herb flavors under wraps. In a distinctly cool style and presently quite backward but boasts terrific energy. Finishes with firm-edged, tooth-dusting tannins and some acidity to be absorbed. Intensely flavored but an awkward showing today, even if my sample showed a smoother texture with 24 hours in the recorked bottle.

Wine Advocate 90 points - A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Columbia Valley Red Wine opens to a dusty and dark-fruited nose with herbal and peppery tones and complex expressions of baked earth and dusty red flower petals. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is just-ripe and turns slightly tart across the mid-palate with defined flavors of green bell pepper that sway with blackberry essence and dusty dark cherries. It has a balanced structure and sticky tannins followed up by evolving flavors of bitter dark chocolate and plum skin on the long, winding finish.
