Axr Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
A mysterious and compelling expression of Napa Valley’s unique terroir, lingering on dense tannins, dark fruits and chocolate.
If only these vines could talk, they would tell you stories of the old Napa Valley. The history of our estate is compounded in layers; rooted in historic tales of fierce Native American hunting grounds, wild west pioneers and the first woman vintner of California in 1886. It has changed hands over the course of 134 years to become a brewery, restaurant, inn, winery and saloon. Tales of love, lust, heartbreak, murders and great fortune create an imaginative backdrop to our present-day vision of AXR. AXR is now a winery that pays homage to its history and blazes the trail of excitement and innovation in Napa Valley as the pioneers before us did. We want to be reminded every day to live fully and to leave a lasting impression on our layer of history. Named after the AxR rootstock (Aramond x Rupestris) that was so prominent in building the modern California wine industry, AxR#1 eventually succumbed to Phylloxera and most of California wine country was left as a blank canvas. Vintners now had a chance to replant and to rethink the entire structure of the vineyards; attention was paid to the terrior and unique varietals were researched. This was truly a turning point in the wine industry as we know it. The AXR dream was started when four friends were sitting around a table, doing what you do with a glass of Napa Cabernet in your hand… sharing, dreaming, laughing, and occasionally sipping! The table was set with a bountiful California meal, in a room filled with an intense passion for wine and a good story: this is where AXR Winery was born. By utilizing modern and innovative techniques in the cellar, we extract the uniqueness of Napa Valley’s soils into wines enjoyable now, or many years from now.
Cut from the same cloth, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is also beautiful, with similar black and blue fruits, dried violets, graphite, and Christmas spice aromas and flavors. Rich, full-bodied, opulent and sexy, with sweet tannin, it too shows its vintage nicely in its slightly more ripe, exuberant, exotic style. Drink it over the coming 15-20 years..December/2017
This 100% varietal wine is exquisitely made, aged nearly two years in French oak, 80% of it new. It imparts gorgeous layers of raspberry and strawberry around an inviting nose of rose and violet. A bold pillowy middle offers clove, pencil shavings and turned earth, the tannins thick and structured..July/2019
This is a ripe and rich red with a cooked-currant and berry character. Yet, it remains vivid and bright. Full-bodied and textured palate with polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Available in 2019. Drink in 2020..May/2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with ready-for-business scents of boysenberries, baked blackcurrants and blueberry pie plus suggestions of Indian spices, mocha and balsamic. The medium to full-bodied palate offers a good amount of expressive black fruits with a chewy texture and lifted character coming through on the otherwise spicy finish.
