Features singed bay leaf, sassafras and menthol aromas, followed by a muscular ball of cassis, plum sauce and blackberry reduction flavors that will take some time to unwind. The grippy, tar-fueled finish will need cellaring to stretch out fully, but all the elements are in place. Best from 2022 through 2037. 1,084 cases made.

A 100% varietal, this lovely, structured and layered wine tastes distinctly of the appellation-a mix of sage, dust and crushed rock complemented by cedar and dried herb. The fruit is elusively nuanced in red and black currant as well as cassis, concentrated enough to consider further aging. Enjoy from 2026-2030.

The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Single Vineyard features notes of tar, cedar and dusty soil over a core of cassis, wild sage and kirsch. The palate is firm, medium-bodied and chewy with a dip in the mid-palate and an earthy finish. It may fill out with a bit more age and warrant a better score in the future.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard Mount Veeder appears to be the most complete wine in the 2016 lineup. Complex notes of leafy herbs, forest floor, spice, and currants all flow to a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, elegant red that has integrated acidity, no hard edges, and a good finish. Given the prices, these all come up short on depth and intensity.
