Long Shadows Poet's Leap Riesling 2019

The 2018 Riesling Poet's Leap begins with a textured nose of stone fruit, sweet citrus, orchard fruit and a soft hint of honey with a waxy citrus tone. Medium-bodied, the wine is voluminous on the palate, with a kiss of residual sugar, soft waxy florals, sweet citrus and apple tones, leading to a lingering finish. It's good, but if you are a fan of German Riesling, you may be left looking for more acidity.
Minerality is much debated, but there is no question that, to the extent it exists, this wine has it, with plentiful aromas of caliche and wet rock, followed by notes of lime and flowers. The palate drinks dry, full of citrus flavors, tightly wound with electric acidity. It's full of flavor and class, with its best days in front of it. Drink from 2023.
Pale, bright straw-yellow. Pure, subtle scents of green apple, lime oil, anise, licorice, ginger and dusty herbs, with riper notes of white stone fruits emerge with air. Penetrating, flavorful wine with an initial impression of sweetness (11 grams per liter residual sugar) leavened by ripe, harmonious acidity (8.3 g/l) and accents of flowers, ginger and herbs. Still some CO2 to be absorbed. Already delicious and enticing in the middle palate, this wine may give greatest pleasure in its youth as it strikes me as a bit less sappy than the 2018 edition. But despite its essentially easygoing nature, it held up nicely in the recorked bottle.

The 2018 Poet's Leap sports a lively gold hue to go with classy notes of sugared green apple, sappy herbs, mint, and hints of minerality. Medium-bodied, off-dry, and beautifully balanced, with a vibrant finish, it will evolve gracefully for over a decade.
