Abeja Chardonnay 2019
|Region||United States, Washington|
Spanish for bee, our name is pronounced ’ah-BAY-ha” We chose this name for its simple beauty and its reminder if times past when farming implied a respect for the environment and a close connection to the earth. It is our belief that each day, we can make a difference in the quality of our care for the land, and no matter how small, any difference we make is worthwile. We create our wines and recieve our guests under the same philosophy.
A delicate bouquet of white tea, orange blossom and toasted almond build into captivating aromas. Opening with mouthwatering citrus and shortbread, the midpalate displays notes of crème brûlée with a level of minerality which brings refinement. Notes of Asian pear emerge towards the end, leading into a long and satisfying finish.
Bright straw-yellow. Rather wild scents of peach pit, strawberry, lime peel, hazelnut and musky lees. Rich and dense on entry, then concentrated and saline in the middle palate, with a melting umami quality that reminded me a bit of sake. Holds its shape and energy nicely through a subtly long, savory aftertaste. A very sophisticated, classically dry, youthful Chardonnay with a bright future.
The aromas offer notes of burnt toast, pumpkin and peach, with the oak not having fully integrated yet. There's a lovely balance and texture to the reserved but still full-feeling fruit flavors. Toast notes linger on the finish. Give it a few years in the cellar to see it at its best.
A medium-to full-bodied white with aromas of dried pineapple, apple pie, nutmeg and vanilla. Crisp with a richly spiced and toasted finish. Drink now.
