The 2014 Broadside Merlot follows in the same stylistic and winemaking direction as our Cabernet Sauvignon. We pick early to preserve freshness and acidity, while our focused viticulture ensures consistent, mature ripeness. This unique site is well suited for the Bordeaux varieties with well-drained soils and coastal climate influence producing wines of exceptional intensity, structure, and longevity. Merlot thrives in this calcium-rich soil profile, with low-yielding
intensely flavorful fruit.
A balanced and remarkably ideal vintage, 2014 set us up for success in the vineyard with its long, even ripening season. Perfectly ripe fruit leads to the deeply pure and bright plum and black cherry aromas complementing subtle earth, vanilla, and spice. While inviting, lush, and awash with bright fruit, the palate also belies the serious nature of Merlot from Margarita Vineyard. Dry and structured, its fine tannins
and fresh acidity make this a standout at the table, and for those with the patience, in the cellar as well.
Wine EnthusiastThe nose on this bottling is a tad fruit-punchy at first, with light red cherry and candied pomegranate aromas, but then picks up complexity with a leather note. The palate also offers that leather alongside tobacco and light elderberry fruit.
