Located in the cool, far south-eastern foothills, deeply affected by San Pablo Bay. Situated on a fiercely steep, rocky, northwest facing slope. Hand-harvested at first light, 10/13; cluster sorted, fully destemmed, hand-sorted berry-by-berry, fully crushed.

Continuing on 2015’s winning formula, again we opted for a strict barrel-selection to create 2016’s “Borrowed Jewels” bottling. A study in indulgence and charm, red and black fruits dominate the palate, as textures fill-in every nook and cranny. Never over the top, but always at the red-line. Harrowing terroirs, create harrowing wines. This 2016 is no exception. Napa Cab lovers, get this in your glass!

It is not often that you see a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from this rising star, cooler-climate vineyard in south Napa. This wine comes exclusively from the low-yielding, steep, rocky "Block 6." Deep purple-black in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sugarloaf Vineyard needs a little coaxing to reveal wonderfully pure scents of blackcurrant cordial, juicy blueberries and ripe blackberries, plus suggestions of iris bulb, dark chocolate, molten licorice and cedar chest. The big, rich, seductive, full-on full-bodied palate is laden with ripe, energetic black berry layers, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and perfumed. A stunning, true-blue Napa blockbuster with its own very evocative signature, this comes highly recommended! 175 cases were made.

(1/31/2019) "More expensive and from a great hillside terroir of rock soils in the southern part of the valley, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Sugarloaf Vineyard offers a more rounded, supple, sexy style comparted to the more focused Starstruck releases. Plums, cassis, eucalyptus, incense, and cedar notes all emerge from this ripe, powerful sexy 2015 that shows the style of the vintage nicely. This fruit loaded effort is going to take 3-4 years to shed some baby fat but will drink beautifully for two decades. Drinking window: 2022 - 2042."

Ripe and direct, with a burst of currant preserves and blackberry compote carried by a racy loganberry note. Offers ample toast along the edges and on the finish, giving this a licorice and vanilla echo, but the fruit keeps the upper hand throughout. Drink now through 2030. 150 cases made.
