The 2019 vintage marks the second release of this Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a true epitome of the finest expression of our western Rutherford benchland terroir. A perfumed bouquet of wild dark berries, crushed earth, and toasty oak spice is present on the nose, while the palate is full of classic Cabernet character. Blackberry, cassis, and black forest cake interweave seamlessly alongside wild rose, while subtle baking spice notes from the well-integrated oak shows nuances of cedar, cinnamon, clove, and caramel. The mouthfeel is saturated and supple with a generous complexity and power. The focused "Rutherford dust" tannins are polished, broad, and round, exhibiting the signature cocoa powder texture and expansive character upon which Rutherford is known. Balanced with depth and concentration, the texture is plush and smooth, leading to a long, persistent finish. A showstopper Cabernet representing the very best from the distinguished Rutherford AVA.

Tasted with Trevor Durling, Chief Winemaker and GM of BV at 10 cubed, the 100th Fl of Central Park Tower. Only the 2nd time BV made this wine and its an amazing value. Its right there with the BV George Latour (100 SPW) in fact Trevor calls it the Jr George Latour, from the same vineyard and has a little more Petit Verdot that gives it a bunch of deep fresh fruit. So good we ordered 25 cases and are very excited about it. - KK

A very attractive red now, with complexity and yummy drinkability. It’s medium-bodied with medium, round tannins that are fresh and more-ish. It’s dusty and lightly earthy with dark currants as well as tobacco. So much going on, in a subtle and refreshing way. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petit verdot, and 5% malbec. Drink or hold.

#50 TOP 100 CELLAR SELECTIONS 2022. Deep black-fruit flavors, moderate tannins and a sense of good density make this wine from one of Napa's oldest producers impressive. Cloves, cedar, blackberries and a touch of anise combine for good complexity on the palate. Best from 2026–2032. (Cellar Selection)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford) is a huge, bombastic wine. Readers who enjoy large- scaled Cabernets will adore this. Super-ripe dark cherry, chocolate, sweet spice and leather are all amplified in this decidedly full-throttle Cabernet from BV. The 2019 is a winner.

Coming mostly from estate fruit, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is another plush, rounded, undeniably delicious release. Ripe blue fruits, spicy oak, and hints of chocolate define the nose, and it' s medium to full-bodied, with a layered, round, incredibly satisfying mouthfeel. I like it now, but it should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years as well.

Juicy and relatively open-knit, with a gush of blackberry, black cherry and plum compote flavors taking the lead, followed by hints of licorice and apple wood. Shows a nice racy edge through the finish. Drink now through 2033. 10,152 cases made.

The first wine in the progression that really speaks to the winery's Rutherford roots, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec that boasts aromas of ripe cherries, accented by baking spices, subtle cedar notes and a hint of mint. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, showing off the silky, fine-grained tannins typical of the region, finishing long and softly dusty, with a hint of cocoa.
