The wine is firm and powerful and develops aromas of ripe dark fruit. Tannins can remain tightly-knit when young, so it does not always display huge tenderness at an early age. This gives way to awe-inspiring complexity and fabulous minerality which only get better with time. An Oscar for this monument.

Tasted blind at Fine & Rare Wines' Clos Vougeot tasting, the 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Olivier Bernstein has a slight earthiness on the nose, less fruit-driven than Bertrand Ambroise but perhaps demonstrating more pinoté. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a fleshy core of strawberry and cranberry fruit. There is good tension here, nicely structured with appreciable mineralité on the finish.
