Beringer Distinction Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
|California, Napa Valley
Jammy red plum and cherry highlight a soft, supple palate that presents as lush and velvety-a reflection of its full-bodied roundedness and rich style. The price point is fair and overdelivers on the wine's broad appeal.
Including a splash of Merlot (1%), the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Distinctions is made to be a plusher, more fruit-forward wine. It has bright blue fruits, violets, tobacco, and chocolate notes and is more polished, seamless and sexy on the palate, with sweeter tannins. I'd be happy to drink bottles over the coming decade or so.
This has a gutsy edge to the mix of red and black currant paste flavors, which mix with licorice and bramble accents. With an extracted feel on the finish thanks to a toothy plum skin note, this shows power and energy, but not the refinement to knit fully. Best from 2021 through 2027. 2,694 cases made.
Composed of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and just 1% Merlot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Distinctions sports a deep garnet-purple color. It rolls effortlessly out of the glass with expressive notions of baked plums, crème de cassis, fruitcake and molten chocolate plus hints of wild sage and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is soft, plush and uncomplicated with bags of juicy fruit preserves and a pleasant suggestion of chewiness on the finish. 2694 cases were made.
