Koiné Primitivo di Manduria 2017
Owned by Bacchanal Wine Imports, Koine represents the direct involvement of Bacchanal’s family into the selection of the wines. This unique advantage guarantees consumers the highest quality for the best price. Each year, the selection is made in strict collaboration with the winemakers and the producers from various regions throughout Italy, so that consistency and quality are maintained year after year. Koine is produced in cooperation with Botter. Headed by the third generation of the family, Botter has almost a century of life and is one of the leading Italian wineries on the export market. Over the years, Botter has guaranteed to its customers the highest quality and has gained recognition from top international client thanks to high service, quality, flexibility and innovation. Botter cooperates with the most qualified producers in Veneto, Apulia, Molise, Abruzzo and Sicily. The strong relationship begins in the vineyards and carries all the way through production cycles and bottling. The name Koine is a reference to the Hellenistic Greek dialect, which was common (????? = koine) to the various peoples of the ancient world from about 300 B.C. to about A.D. 300 for both Greek and Italians alike. Bacchanal’s hope with Koine was to create a wine brand with a common language, for common people and with the extraordinary message of enjoying life.
Ripe, rich, dark-fruited and spicy, the 2017 Primitivo di Manduria wafts up from the glass. This is a soft yet juicy effort, with mineral-tinged wild berries that cascade across a core of brisk acidity. A bit of heat pokes through as this finishes long with a bitter twang of mocha.
