Albert Bichot Corton Charlemagne Domaine du Pavillon 2018
|France, Burgundy, Cote de Beaune
A shy nose on this wine gives almost nothing away, just a notion of wet limestone. Freshness and concentrated poise on the palate shows a structured, firm nature softened by inherent creaminess. Ripe lemon fruit sets bright accents while lemon pith highlights the creamy, textured midpalate. This wine is still tightly coiled, but promises a structure bathed in mellow light. The finish is long and chalky.
Vanilla and butterscotch accents frame the peach and apple pie flavors in this lush white. Though fluid, there is good cut behind the creamy texture, along with harmony and length. Offers a lingering, spicy finish. Drink now through 2026. 470 cases made, 111 cases imported.
The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was picked on September 2 and 7 and aged in 35% new oak. It has a pretty orange blossom, pawpaw and lemon curd bouquet that is neatly integrated with the oak. The palate is balanced and concentrated with a lightly spiced entry, a fine bead of acidity and a welcome touch of sour lemon on the finish. Fine.
