(14.6% alcohol; aged 14 months in 60% new oak; reportedly from a crop of just 1.3 tons per acre): Bright red-ruby. Black cherry, cassis, licorice, spicy oak and herbs on the nose, complemented by torrefaction notes of coffee and mocha. Nicely concentrated, fine-grained and elegantly styled, conveying a sneaky hint of sweetness to its dark fruit and spice flavors. Fleshy and broad but also boasts lovely clarity and a light touch. This wine shows a slight greenness, though: will it ripen in bottle? In any event, it should benefit from another year or two of patience. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and sneaky length.
