This is the pinnacle of the Ramonet estate. Diverse soils produce a profoundly complex, expressive wine with rich flavors. It is detailed, focused, well- balanced and will cellar for decades.

Ramonet produced three barrels of the 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru, an extraordinary wine that numbers among the high points of the vintage. Offering up aromas of ripe pears, peach, citrus oil, nutmeg and pastry cream, it's full-bodied, deep and elegantly textural, with incredible mid-palate volume, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. Impeccably balanced and ineffably complete, this is the best Montrachet the domaine has bottled since the incredible 2014. -

(from a .26 ha parcel in Puligny). Like several of the wines in the range, the oaky nose was initially reduced to the point of being borderline funky yet with extended aeration (24 hours in this case), the underlying aromas of a wonderful variety of white orchard fruit, floral, spice and soft citrus scents gradually emerge. There is outstanding richness to the big- bodied, compact and very serious flavors that coat the palate with copious amounts of dry extract that would normally cause the finish to seem ponderous yet in this case the firm acid spine maintains the balance. I cannot overemphasize just how backward this is at present yet there are no spiky edges and overall, this will probably be approachable on the earlier side for the Ramonet Montrachet, which is to say between 8 to 10 years yet reward 15 to 20. In a word, magnificent but be advised this is going to need at least some forbearance.

Smooth and creamy, this is at the perfect stage for showing off the peach, lime blossom, hazelnut and baking spice flavors. Compact and concentrated, with persistent drive to the long finish. Hangs together well and should evolve nicely over the next decade. Best from 2022 through 2031. 40 cases imported.

(I tasted this near the end of its malolactic fermentation): Pure but reticent aromas of yellow fruits and iodine. Sappy, savory and tight, displaying serious inner-mouth tensile strength. More about saline minerality and menthol than primary fruit in the early going but this potentially outstanding wine is still in an embryonic stage.
