Since 1464, the Château Bourdieu vineyard has flourished on the terroirs of the right bank of the Gironde. Now owned by the Schweitzer family, it covers 75 hectares of AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. Luc and his two sons Ludovic and Richard have the culture of Lavigne deeply rooted in their genes and the taste for meticulous work. This is why each cuvée is made with the same attention and the same passion. We thus find in each wine of Château Bourdieu the richness of the terroirs and the quality of the great wines of Bordeaux. The estates vineyards are an average of 35yrs old and grow on a mixture of clay, limestone and gravel soils.

Tasting notes

CHATEAU BOURDIEU N ° 1 offers a beautiful deep garnet color to the eye with intense reflections. Its expressive and complex nose, made up of very ripe black fruits: blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry and fresh red fruits: strawberry, redcurrant, is enhanced with wonderful toasted and vanilla notes. Its mouth is rich, structured, fleshy and ample thanks to its round and silky tannins. The finish brings this rich side which will make it appreciated on all occasions.

Pristine definition of pure and driving damson, cherry and plum, with understated vanilla oak. Deep and long, the palate reveals a cascade of fleshy black fruits over ripe, fine-grained tannins and fruit-bonded acidity. Lovely stuff. by Decanter, DC, 2020.

The 2019 No. 1 is a soft, plush wine with no hard edges and plenty of appeal. Inky dark cherry, plum, crème de cassis, mocha, chocolate, sweet French oak and espresso all run through this sumptuous, racy Côtes de Blaye. The is a dramatic, exotic and virile, with tons of personality.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the Bourdieu 2019 No 1 rolls out of the glass with notes of black raspberries, stewed plums and dried Provence herbs with a touch of cracked black pepper. The medium-bodied palate delivers simple black fruit notes with appealing freshness, a plush texture and nice harmony.
