The beautiful Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Morellino di Scansano Riserva is Sangiovese cut with about 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit represents a special selection taken from the estate's classic Morellino vineyards. The Riserva sees 15 months in large oak casks and one year in bottle, giving it more time to flesh out and integrate. The wine shows rich density on the mid-palate with aromas of black cherry, spice and earth. The upcoming 2020 vintage was quite hot for a grape such as Sangiovese, and the 2021 growing season was even hotter in this corner of Maremma.

The 2019 Morellino di Scansano Riserva offers up sweet red cherry, tobacco, spice, leather, mint and incense. Medium in body, with lovely aromatic nuance, the 2019 is already showing some signs of development. For that reason, I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later.

Boasts black cherry and kirsch flavors that permeate the glycerol texture, shaded by black pepper, earth and sage. Firmly structured yet balanced, with dusty tannins on the finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2027. 3,320 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.
