Black pepper, pink peppercorn and black raspberries highlight deep and brooding aromas of cinnamon, and baked blackberries. This Syrah is dense and concentrated but lifted by natural acidity and firm aromas and flavors from the whole-cluster fermentation.

The 2016 Syrah Castelli-Knight Ranch is decidedly powerful in its first impression. Tobacco, earthiness, cedar and pepper notes give the 2016 terrific aromatic intensity and a feeling of expansiveness that is super appealing. On the palate, though, the wine is bit clenched. I would prefer to cellar it for at least a year or two.
