Just like the other estates of the Rothschild family (Château Mouton Rothschild, Opus One and Almaviva), Domaine de Baronarques produces great wines, on the sandstone, clay and limestone hillsides of Saint-Polycarpe, in Languedoc.
The wine has a deep, dense colour with a garnet tint. The nose reveals a wide array of aromas, opening on intense black fruit such as blackberry and billberry together with herby garrigue notes, then developing touches of mild spice and licorice. The dense and concentrated attack gives way to a well integrated and succulent mid palate underpinned by refined, silky tannins, with balsamic, chocolate and licorice notes contributing to the overall harmony. The finish is fresh and harmonious on a range of black fruit and incense flavours which linger long on the palate.
A beautiful blend combining the grapes of Bordeaux with those of the Mediterranean, this 2015 is made of 57% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Syrah and 11% Malbec. Aged in 25% new barrels and 75% 1-to 3-years-old barrels, the wine has a deep, dense color with a garnet tint. Smelling like a classy Right Bank Bordeaux, the 2015 Grand Vin is a blend of 57% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 13% Syrah, 11% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cigar box and cassis notes lead the way, followed by hints of pencil shavings, charred barrel and dark chocolate. It's medium to full-bodied, with a fine, long and slightly dusty finish that suggests around a decade of ageability.
