Rich, ripe and full of powerful flavors of Christmas pudding, dark cherry and black currant that are backed by muscular acidity and tannins. Dried mint and slate details show on the dense finish. Drink now through 2021. 5,225 cases made.

Given additional structure from the addition of 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot, this well-made wine shows a wealth of plum and raspberry that's succulent on the palate. Soft supple tannin provides support and a touch of heat, the finish is awash in cinnamon and vanilla.

A good value in Merlot is Rombauer's 2014 Merlot, which is 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine has a dense purple color, plenty of coffee bean, black cherry and smoky notes, medium to full body, a good, chunky mouthfeel, and a hint of chocolate. It's not the most complex Merlot, but it's mouth-filling and satisfying. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
