Château-Margaux Margaux 1988 6L BottleThe very deep colour, the rich, intense nose and the magnificent structure on the palate are very reminiscent of the 1986. They have the same powerful, ripe tannins, with perhaps a little less concentration, but also less austerity. Unlike 1986, in fact, 1988 is starting to open out; we can therefore drink it, knowing full well that it will continue to improve for several years -seven or eight at least.

In the last few years Elaine and Manfred have begun creating their own vineyards dedicated to Rhone varietals and now their Cumulus and Eleven Confessions estate vineyards are contributing the majority of the fruit for their wines. Their winemaking philosophy is to work in very small batches, gravity flow, natural yeasts (unless a fermentation problem is anticipated), long lees aging for the whites and repeated racking for the reds to open them up. This is a simplified explanation of a very dedicated and artistic approach to winemaking. The wines are at once very rich and elegant, superbly balanced and thoroughly harmonious with food, never overwhelming. Gift Set includes one magnum Syrah, and one magnum Grenache.

Justin Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Appearance: Deep purple ruby core, slightly lighter at the rim showing slight staining on the glass. Aroma: Aromatic with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, attractive oak and complex cigar box notes with cocoa and a subtle purple floral note. Palate: Dry, moderate plus bodied, with ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and a touch of red fruit brightness on the entry. Balanced oak, vanilla spice and brioche notes mixed with classic savory cabernet varietal cues mingle on the mid-palate. The finish is moderately long and fresh with sustained rounded fruit and lingering baking spice balanced nicely by firm, smooth tannins.
Layer Cake Shiraz 2015The aromas of cocoa, warm spice and dark fruit are very powerful from the first whiff. In the mouth, the wine is layered with rich blackberry, dark cherries and hints of dark, creamy chocolate ganache. The finish lingers on, hanging on your palate while the fruit and spice flavors slowly change and fade.
Cherry Pie Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir 2015Aroma: Tart cherry and cranberry revealing dried rose petal and forest floor notes. Mouth Feel: Fine-grained tannins, rich texture and spirited acidity poise the wine around a core of bright red fruit. The finish lingers with the lavender and rose petal notes quintessential to Carneros Pinot Noir.
Saxum Paderewski Vineyard 2010 1.5LOur second Paderewski bottling is firing on all cylinders. I backed off on the Syrah and used a lot more Mourvedre, and added a new component, Tempranillo. Yes I know, we are crazy! It's a Zinfandel / Mourvedre / Tempranillo / Syrah / Petite Sirah blend, and it shows its terrior beautifully. What you get from this wine is a taste of the Paderewski Vineyard. It is dark, brooding and muscular, while at the same time jam packed with tons of sweet fruits. There's even a spicy tannic side lurking in there, underneath those fruit flavors. Thanks to the cool, long growing season, it has a wonderful freshness and purity to it combined with great underlying tannins.
Chateau les Rouilleres Bordeaux 2015This wine has cherry color of a medium intensity. It is aromatic with notes of red fruits and spices. The tannis are supple and the wine is fine and balanced. A spectacular Bordeaux from the much heralded 2009 vintage with a level of complexity that far exceeds its humble price point. Goes great with grilled meats and cheese. Saxum Booker Vineyard 2010 1.5LOwned by Eric and Lisa Jensen, the Booker Vineyard is extremely steep and rocky with a mix of calcareous and silicious soils. We lease 2 acres of East facing Syrah that produce extremely concentrated fruit with great acidity, 1 acre of a North West face that we ferment whole cluster to produce a black tannic wine with great texture, and 1 acre of Mourvedre on a South slope that gives wonderful intensity and structure. The resulting blend is very concentrated, with great texture and tons of fruit and spice. We age it for 20-26 months mainly in new 350 Liter French hogshead barrels with extra thick staves. Our wines are never racked off their lees and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2016Colour: Bright garnet. Nose: An immediate ascent of scent - no need to wait or to vigorously swirl this wine to tease out 'what lies beneath'! Dark berry fruits consistent to both varietal persuasions, (cabernet and shiraz), overtly courted by elements of ponzu, soy, sesame and dried shiitake mushroom. Senses are easily conveyed to a forest after rain - wet bracken, liberated mulch, damp soils. Naturally (new and used) oak plays a (minor) role in this fanciful aromatic romp. Palate: Flavours and textures akin to marbled Kobe beef and an earthy accompaniment of black liquorice root and anise. Structurally bold with little protruding - integrated, fine ... and has comfortably already "settled into place". 'Appetising' acidity - a non-intrusive and refreshing granita-like bite/attaque. Assam tea maltiness and tannins merge with impressions of wet slate, pencil lead/graphite ... no doubt somehow linked to earlier partial barrel fermentation and oak maturation. Needs time, as per most Bin 389's at release. Perhaps a little longer for this vintage? Our recommendation - your choice.

The name "Branches" comes for a colloquial translation of Ramos from Spanish to English. We source our Cabernet Sauvignon for Branches from the Peterson Vineyard in Lodi, CA. The Peterson Vineyard produces fruit of incredible richness and complexity on its sandy soils. The Peterson's have been farming the land sustainably for four generations.

Bodegas y Vinedos Maurodos Prima 2014Prima 2014 Region: Toro D.O. Winery: MAURODOS, BODEGAS Y VINEDOS Grapes: 85% Tinta de Toro, 15% Garnacha Vintage: 2014 Color: Red The grapes for Prima are sourced from vines between 10 and 50 years of age. The vineyards for this wine are growing in sandy-clay soils with gravelly subsoils. Vineyards are trained both en vaso and to wire. The younger estate vines were planted at higher density than existing plantings. This 2014 vintage is uniformed in quantity and quality with balanced phenolic ripeness, aromatic intensity, precise fruit, smooth tannins and well measured aging. Winter was relatively warm, with below average rainfall and rapid bud break. Early flowering in the beginning in June due to a frost-free Spring. Veraison came early and harvesting started September 8th. Harvesting took place for four weeks with perfect weather conditions and occasional storms refreshing the grapes, which had no impact on the health of the fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand with a selection of grapes in the vineyard. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled, conical, stainless steel tanks which allow for caps to naturally be broken very softly during pump overs. The wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels of different ages. Bottled in February 2016.

Freelander District One Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is the fourth Cabernet release from Freelander and from California. Aged in and American French oak, it shows massively rich flavors of blackberries and cassis. This medium-bodied wine shows lush mouthfeel, balance and complexity. The ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of toasted oak complete the gentle finish.
Adobe Road Redline 2016Premier Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec and Petite Syrah combine with lush Syrah from Sonoma to produce an impressive yet approachable red blend encompassing the best fruit California has to offer. This wine revs up with blackberry and mocha aromas (along with a nuance of anise), turning the corner with velvety dark chocolate, black cherry, baking spices and deep ripe fruit from palate to finish. Redline was aged in toasted French oak, enhancing the natural tannin of the varietals with a subtle smokiness. The balanced acidity holds up to a variety of foods such as steak, pizzetta, pork belly and rich pasta.

Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon 2016This "crazy value" Napa Cab was sourced from a couple of top "Cult" wineries in the Valley (SHHH...their wines sell for between $75-150/bot!). Deep, rich and plush with classic Napa Cab fruit, it drinks like a wine costing 2-3 times as much!
Altamura Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015Fermentation of Altamura Cabernet Sauvignon occurs in both open and closed top fermenters. Certain lots are allowed to macerate on their skins for up to three weeks following fermentation. This technique produces a wine with softer, more integrated tannins, which carry fruit and oak nuances through to the palate. The wine is racked into 70% new French oak barrels for a period of 34 months. The wine is lightly filtered and then bottled.
Cade Howell Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 vintage is a special one since it features fruit from our newest 82-acre estate on Howell Mountain, CADE 13th Vineyard. A potpourri of aromas explode from the glass with notes of raspberry coulis, black cherry, cedar, cocoa nib, boysenberry, mint, graham cracker, and a hint of lavender, rose and bay. The palette follows with bright flavors of red cherry and strawberry jam before tertiary elements of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, and fresh plums take over. This wine is full-bodied displaying archetypal Howell Mountain tannin balanced by an elegant structure.
