Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2014
Wine EnthusiastThis bottling is less ebullient than previous vintages, but that only makes it more appealing. It still has its hallmark blackberry, spice and cocoa shadings, they're just in better overall proportion and balanced by more of an earthy, savory streak. The tannins are ripe and silky, the fruit bright on the finish.
Wine SpectatorBright and juicy, offering a fragrant floral overtone to the cherry and raspberry flavors. Delivers accents of spice, toast and black tea, with a solid, firm finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,500 cases imported.
Wine AdvocateDeep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Shiraz Jester is a little subdued at this youthful stage, with scorched earth and chargrill notes opening out to cassis and crushed blackberries, plus a suggestion of black pepper. Medium-bodied, this is straight-up, textbook McLaren Vale Shiraz with gobs of juicy fruit and a little bit of earthy subtext complemented by a touch of tannic chew.
