The 2021 James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock is 82% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah, and 2% Roussanne that aged for 32 months in 225-liter barrels, 84% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the glass with bold notes of plum preserves, juicy blackberries, and Indian spices, plus hints of iron ore, dried lavender, and Sichuan pepper. The full-bodied palate delivers a firm, grainy texture, and seamless freshness to frame the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing on a lingering chalky note.

Polished but burly, flashy but nuanced, the 2021 Bone Rock is spectacular from the first pour, displaying incredibly dense, layered black fruit, dried herbs and charred meat aromas with ever-increasing intensity. The palate is saturated and staining but admirably walks the tightrope of balance despite its immense frame. The finish is absolutely explosive, yet it keeps an amazing amount of power in reserve, which slowly unfolds and swells with impressive length, tenacity and focus. A stunning highlight within an impressive lineup, this will be a fascinating wine to watch unfold over the next decade and beyond. It's a blend of 82% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah and 2% Roussanne that aged 32 months in 84% new 225-liter barrels.
