The colour is garnet red with ruby nuances. The aroma is intense and persistent, with clear scents of spices, cinnamon, absinthe, tobacco and dog rose. Full and elegant taste, with soft and enveloping tannins. The spicy and woody notes merge perfectly together. It goes well with traditional egg pastas from the Langhe (tajarin), meat-stuffed ravioli, red meats, boiled meats, braised meats and game. It is ideal for sipping alongside sheep and goat toma cheeses and hard ripened cheeses.

The 2014 Barolo del Comune di Barolo reveals unexpected depth and layering in what is a slightly more accessible vintage. You don't need to wait ages before drinking this Barolo. The bouquet opens readily with cherry, blackberry and fragrant wild rose. The mouthfeel is direct and sharp with tangy, sour fruit on the close. This wine will flesh out and grow in volume with more cellar aging, but you could also opt to drink it in the near and medium term.

This opens with subdued aromas of crushed herb, espresso, dried rose and a whiff of camphor. On the rather lean linear, palate, coconut, toast and powdered sage notes accent sour cherry alongside assertive close-grained tannins that leave a somewhat astringent finish.
