A seductively precise and aromatic Pauillac wine
The estate
In the heart of the Pauillac appellation, Chateau Duhart-Milon is a perfect representative of its appellation. This 4th Classified Growth of Pauillac was founded in the 18th century under the leadership of the Lafite family, who covered Pauillac with vines at that time.
The vineyard
Duhart-Milon 2021 is a Pauillac wine that stems from a 76-hectare vineyard located to the west of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. The soils are composed of fine gravel and aeolian sand upon tertiary limestone subsoils.
The vintage
2021 is a less sunny vintage which has enabled each terroir to express its nuances, including the young 5-year-old vines. The blend is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in a wine that reveals the estate’s signature identity and style, that is to say a pleasant framework and the expression of perfectly ripe fruit. The harvest took place from September 22nd to October 8th.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (81%)
Merlot (19%)

Black fruit and toast aromas give this wine its perfumed character. It is generous—celebrating Cabernet Sauvignon—and structured, dominated by succulent blackberry fruits. It has aging potential. Drink from 2027. (Roger Voss)

This is a really pretty Duhart and fans out nicely on the palate with medium soft tannins that are polished. Gorgeous young wine. 81% cabernet sauvignon and 19% merlot. (James Suckling)

Loved the oak, mocha and smoked meat notes. Absolute silk on the pallet with a heavenly finish.

Incorporating fully 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Duhart-Milon unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, lively and persuasively concentrated, with beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish, it's a classy, serious wine that reflects all the progress this estate has been making over the last decade." 04/22

"The 2021 Duhart-Milon is a potent, brooding wine. Dark fruit, herbs, licorice and incense fill out the layers nicely. The oak still needs time to come together, but that is what élevage is for. The 2021 is a serious Duhart. Whether or not it will acquire a bit more charm remains an open question." 04/22

A solid step up, the 2021 Château Duhart-Milon has terrific cassis, graphite, and tobacco notes in a medium-bodied, elegant style. I like its tannins, and it has good mid-palate depth as well as the fresher, almost crunchy style of the vintage.
