2016 is a great vintage, driven by elegance and concentration. The growing season started early, as moderate conditions in July and August prompted the fruits’ steady development. By the end of August—thanks to several warm days—the grapes achieved the perfect aromatic and phenolic ripeness. Devoid of excess sugar, the fruit produced wine that was concentrated and deep, while also bright and fresh.

Super fresh boysenberry and mulberry aromas lead to a palate that has a very fleshy, long and dense core of fine tannins that carry in a seamlessly long, fluid style. There’s impressive purity here and excellent concentration of fruit. Try from 2022.

A big, broad-shouldered wine, with a streak of savory darting through the layers of cassis, fig and boysenberry fruit, followed by sassafras and sagebrush accents on the well-structured finish, where a lingering echo of loam plays out. Best from 2021 through 2035. 759 cases made.

This is 100% varietal from a property along the lower slopes and foothills of the Mayacamas. Relatively cool, it coaxes Old World elegance and structure from the grapes, displaying lush tannin and integrated oak effusive in pencil shavings, clove and cigar box, the fruit dark and brambly. Enjoy best from 2026 through 2030. (Cellar Selection)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard Yountville follows suit with its complex dark black fruits, licorice, asphalt, and leafy herb aromas and flavors. It too is medium to full-bodied, has a supple, easygoing mid-palate, and building tannins. Given the structure and tannins, it also could use more mid-palate density.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville Single Vineyard has a nose of burnt tires, scorched earth, stewed tea and bay leaves with red and black currant. The palate is quite reduced with a firm, chewy texture and rubbery finish.
