The Acre story begins in 2002 with just one acre of Cabernet Sauvignon planted and nurtured to maturity almost solely by co-founder, Dave Becker, at his family home in the Oak Knoll region of the Napa Valley. Dave’s one acre home Cabernet vineyard soon led to production from two more one acre plantings - Oak Knoll Zinfandel from his neighbor’s vineyard, and Yountville Cabernet, which Dave planted with identical Bordeaux clones as those in his home vineyard, allowing for an interesting vineyard comparison with identical varietal, clones, spacing, and orientation, and location being the only variable. In 2017, Mike and Talley Henry took over as proprietors of Acre and brought on veteran winemaker, Richard Bruno. Together they will continue the founders’ legacy of producing high quality wines from Acre’s core vineyards in Oakville and Yountville while adding new vineyard sources and varietals as Acre moves into its next chapter.

A juicy, delicious red, the 2018 Merlot has lots of raspberry and blueberry fruits as well as spice, vanilla, and incense-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, rounded, and supple on the palate, it's about as drinkable as they come.

Made from 100% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Merlot rolls out of the glass with easy-breezy scents of baked plums, warm black cherries and blackberry tart plus suggestions of tobacco leaf and spice box. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers plenty of uncomplicated juicy black fruit flavors with a pleasant chewiness to the texture and bags of freshness, finishing with a spicy kick.

Earthy and tart, this 100% varietal red was aged 14 months in French oak, 60% of it new. Taut in leathery texture, it develops an easygoing approachability and softness as it opens, finishing in dried herb and clove.

The 2018 Merlot is a thin, weedy offering with only modest depth and complexity. There is just enough fruit to balance strong floral and savory signatures, and that leaves the wine feeling light.

Sinewy, with sanguine hints to the dried dark fruit and espresso flavors, showing bay leaf hints on the tannic finish. Drink now. 537 cases made.
