Pencil shavings and gamy aromas meet with very light red-fruit tones on the nose of this blend of all five primary Bordeaux varieties. Leathery flavors show on the palate as do dark berries.
Cedar, dark fruits, leafy herbs, and bay leaf notes all emerge from the medium-bodied 2016 Claret, which has ample fruit, a solid herbal/green edge, and a good finish. The blend is 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, brought up in a mix of French, American, and Russian oak.
