Readers looking for a brilliant Napa Cabernet under $100 should snatch up the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard, which comes from the cooler Coombsville region of Napa. Made from 100% Cabernet and aged 27 months in French oak, it has a wonderful blue fruit quality as well as classic Cabernet tobacco and herbal notes. With full-bodied richness, a pure, layered texture, and silky tannins, it's a beautiful wine that will evolve for two decades.

A dense, powerful wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard offers a captivating interplay of fruit richness and the savoriness that is typical of this site. Black cherry, plum, licorice, lavender, iron, menthol and grilled herbs add striking aromatic nuance to this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a terrific example of the Coombsville appellation. Readers should plan on cellaring the structured, tannic 2016 for at least a few years. Even with bottle age, the 2016 will always be a Cabernet that emphasizes savory and mineral qualities above all else.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is made of 100% clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon aged in Taransaud barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with vibrant black cherries, boysenberries and black raspberries with hints of redcurrants, bay leaves, pencil lead and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, the palate is beautifully elegant, offering bold freshness and fine-grained tannins, finishing with a provocative herbal lift.

Vivid, with plum, acai berry and blueberry flavors driving through, inlaid with a racy graphite edge and backed by a mouthwatering, violet- and anise-tinted finish. This has range and drive. Best from 2021 through 2032. 125 cases made.
