Barolo D.O.C.G. Riserva Novantesimo 2011, from some of our historic vineyards, represents my wish to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the foundation of my family winery Paolo Scavino (1921-2011). For the first time since 1964, I decided to reproduce the bottle and the label used by my grandfather Lorenzo and my father Paolo. They devoted their lives to the care of vineyards, with great passion, tenacity and dignity, animated by love and respect for our land. They always deeply believed, even in the most difficult times, in the greatness of Langa's hills, in the quality and character of its fruits. To me and my daughters Enrica and Elisa, it is an honor to carry on their values and the work they started.
The 2011 Barolo Riserva Novantesimo is a proud and exuberant wine that does enormous justice to the vintage and to the mighty Nebbiolo grape. This is remembered as a warm growing season, and this wine is richly layered, generous and beautifully intense as a result. Dark cherry aromas are folded within spice, cured tobacco and leather. The best part is that subtle crunch or snap you get on the palate, thanks to the fresh acidity that is neatly integrated within.
