Pietradolce Etna Bianco Archineri 2019
|Region||Italy, Sicily, Etna|
About the Winery:
Pietradolce, means sweet stone in Italian and is an ode to Etna. The volcanic soil covering the slopes is very stony, sandy and mineral-rich. The Etna volcanos abundant mineral components and microclimate cool nights, warm days and wide-ranging temperature variations give Pietradolce wines extraordinary richness, minerality, fragrance and depth.
Pure Carricante, Etnas ancient white grape, which has been growing there for a thousand years. After so many centuries, the variety has perfectly adapted to the unique climate on the slopes, especially the drastic temperature changes between day and night.
Notes from the Winemaker:
This 100% Carricante varietal is an intense expression of its terroir. Lovely acidity and great minerality are characteristics of terrain (Milo), which is undoubtedly the best for Etna whites.
A structured wine, with complex aromas of grapefruit and herbs; fresh and flavorful, with a long finish.
Pairs well with seafood and grilled fresh fish, white meat
The 2019 Etna Bianco Archineri (with 7,000 bottles produced) is a pure expression of Carricante from pre-phylloxera vines. The wine is made in stainless steel and you get a very pure and precise taste of the grape as a result. This was a great growing season on Etna, resulting in nicely concentrated and shapely fruit, so that simple wine making approach is well matched to the elegance of vintage material on hand. Peach, honey and crushed stone rise to the forefront of the bouquet.
Lovely aromas of pear pie with light vanilla and lime undertones. Full-bodied with tight, crisp acidity and a pear-puree and sherbet aftertaste.
Spanish broom, green melon and honey aromas lead the nose. Made with grapes from extremely old vines, the palate features ripe pear, lemon drop candy and tangy saline before a white almond close.
