Substance Powerline Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
|Region||United States, Washington, Walla Walla Valley|
Good medium red. Cherry/berry, licorice and olive brine on the nose, plus a whiff of beefsteak tomato. Silky but alive on entry, then nicely concentrated and firm in the middle palate, offering lively, tactile, savory flavors of redcurrant, cherry, tobacco and spices, plus a hint of smoked meat. As with all of the Substance reds, this strikes me as rather gently extracted, but it also shows a bit more energy than the Jack's Vineyard example. Finishes firm and subtly persistent, with serious but integrated tannins and lovely spicy lift. This wine already delivers good density but may yet blossom further with another year in the cellar.
