The 2018 Cabernet Franc El Enemigo is mixed with 10% Malbec, both harvested at five separate time in Gualtallary, Uco Valley and from vineyards planted in sandy soils rich in calcium deposits. This wine was aged for 15 months in old foudres. Dark garnet in color, the complex nose offers notes of ripe redcurrant, dark fruit, hints of ash and a touch of jalapeno and nutmeg followed by country herbs. Compact and taut on the palate with a juicy linearity, the wine gathers depth and flavor as it goes before the long, bold finish. A lovely way of taming the wilder qualities of high-altitude reds.

The elegant, spicy, peppery and floral 2018 Cabernet Franc contains 10% Malbec, as these varietal bottling are rarely 100% varietal. It has intense and pungent flavors reminiscent of freshly cracked black peppercorns and wild herbs. The ripeness is contained, and the wine has a surprisingly low pH that provides very good freshness and a vibrant palate, more so given the very fine tannins and the tasty flavors that lift up the finish. There's a lush spiciness to the raspberry and red plum flavors that are framed by suave acidity and tannins in this red, which has a minerally verve to the finish, with hints of white pepper. Drink now through 2024. 2,200 cases made, 1,700 cases imported.
