Cave Spring CSV Riesling 2016
|Region||Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula|
Produced from the estate's oldest vines, this is a worthy reserve. This wine shows impressive depth and intensity, with powerful fruit flavors led by Satsuma orange and Meyer lemon. There's a touch of spice and an underlying minerality. A sensational value, but just 50 cases were exported to the U.S.
Luminous straw-green. Delicate aromas of white peach and herbs, plus riper notes of melon and pink grapefruit; a hint of licorice emerges with aeration. Then fresh flavors of lime, melon and pink grapefruit and a juicy, vibrant texture. Finishes with outstanding length. This packs in lots of flavor while sporting only 12% alcohol; I also admire the impeccable sugar/acid balance (6.7 g/L r.s. and 7.1 g/L total acidity).
The creamy texture sets the stage for apricot, peach, floral and citrus aromas and flavors. Balanced, tailing off slightly on the finish. On the austere side, and needs more time. Drink now through 2024. 820 cases made, 50 cases imported.
