Estate

After more than 160 years, Ogier has grown to become one of the leading producers in the Rhône Valley. Most of its land holdings are in the Southern Rhône area producing wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Lirac. The Estate also makes small but exceptional bottlings from parcels within the most notable appellations of the Northern Rhône - Crozes-Hermitage and Côte Rôtie. Ogier’s wines are an ode to finesse, elegance and freshness.

Deep violet color. Powerful cherry and boysenberry qualities on the nose, along with suggestions of candied licorice and pungent flowers. In a weighty style, offering bitter cherry, blue fruit and dark chocolate flavors that slowly turn more lively with air. Chewy tannins add solid grip to a long, smoke- and spice-tinged finish that emphatically echoes the cherry note.

Leafy herbs, blackberries, spice box, and earth garrigue notes all emerge from the 2018 Gigondas Dentellis. It's a quality, possibly outstanding, Gigondas offering medium-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and a good finish. It's very well done.

A whisper of camphor lends a brambly, herbal tone to ripe, almost ruddy, red-plum and dried-strawberry flavors in this wine. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre matured 12 months in seasoned, neutral foudres, it's opulently textured but freshly balanced, framed by fine-grained, persistent tannins. Best now-2030.

The 2018 Gigondas Dentellis-a blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah-ages in a mix of foudres and demi-muids. Espresso, black olive and even hints of pumpernickel and chocolate give this a decidedly dark flavor profile. It's full-bodied and concentrated, giving the impression of density on the mid-palate, then finishes with decent acidity.
