Voliero Rosso di Montalcino 2017
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Rosso di Montalcino|
Sour cherry, strawberry, floral, tobacco and mineral flavors weave throughout this rich red, backed by a firm spine of tannins. Fresh finish. Drink now through 2024.
Subtle aromas of sunbaked earth, leather and dark fruit come together on this. The taut palate offers dried black cherry, orange zest and white pepper alongside dusty tannins. Drink through 2022.
Voliero is a sub-brand owned by Andrea Cortonesi of Uccelliera. This estate has vineyards in a slightly warmer side of Montalcino with heavier soils that contribute to more robust and softly textured expressions. The Voliero 2017 Rosso di Montalcino (with 4,500 bottles made) offers good dimension and girth with an extra layer of spice and earthiness that surrounds a core of dark berry fruit. This is a simple wine with a breezy, easy-drinking approach. Hey, it works for me.
