Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra 2014
The Ginestra cru is a personal favorite. I just love the wines from this long slope of sun-soaked vineyards that extends down from Monforte d'Alba. The Paolo Conterno 2014 Barolo Ginestra has fared very nicely despite the infamous difficulties of the vintage. The wine shows tiptop ripeness with balanced and intense aromas of black fruit, spice, anise seed and cola. This wine is still very tight and nervous at its core, so give it ample time to evolve in your cellar. I'd suggest another 10 years at a minimum. With 16,000 bottles made, this wine promises to blossom.
Dense and firmly tannic, this red boasts a core of cherry and plum flavors, surrounded by underbrush, tar and tobacco notes. Monolithic now, yet feels balanced and lingers on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2040. 1,250 cases made.
