Great color. A shiny, very-intense purple. Broad variety of aromas with hints of mint blended with spices then prune and berries. Creamy on the palate with a solid body and soft, pleasant, well-distributed tannins. The acidity is well-balanced with the alcoholic component.

A stunning Chianti Classico Gran Selezione that shows pure lavender and violets, in addition to riper dark cherries, tea leaves, olives, eucalyptus and spice box. Very structured and muscular on the palate, which encompasses layers of dark fruit and plenty of driving acidity to take this through to a long, chewy finish. Drink from 2024.

Enticing aromas of violet, eucalyptus and leather lead the nose. The fragrant, structured palate delivers black cherry, clove, tobacco and cinnamon alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it well-balanced. Enjoy 2022–2031.

Focused in both its aromas and flavors, with an intense shaft of cherry shaded by mineral, woodsy underbrush and spice notes. Complex and well-defined, showing a solid structure to ensure future evolution. Offers excellent balance and length. Best from 2024 through 2042.

This is a full and generous expression with dark fruit, dried blackberry, spice and lightly toasted nut. The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardo is a classic mid-weight Tuscan red with lots of pretty freshness and firm tannins that are not at all astringent or bitter. I'm finding that some of these wines from Castello di Bossi are a bit clipped, hallow or short on the finish. That is the case here. Open it alongside an amatriciana with plenty of shaved pecorino.

The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Bossi is an attractive, expressive wine. Sweet red cherry and red plum fruit give the 2016 a nicely sense of immediacy. Pliant and open-knit, with mid-weight structure, the 2016 is impeccably balanced from start to finish. Another year or two in bottle will only help, but all things considered, this is a relatively open Riserva for the vintage.
