Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis and bitter chocolate are lifted by violet and wild herbs. Concentrated, plush and pliant but without any excessive sweetness to its palate-staining flavors of blackberry, blueberry, violet and spices. Perfectly integrated acidity somehow gives this seamless wine a light touch. Consistent from start to extremely long, ripely tannic finish, this wine was a sentimental favorite in my tastings this summer owing to its energy and classic dryness. To split hairs: these vines were just ten years old in 2016 and so the wine does not show quite the depth or refinement of tannins of the Cobos Malbec Marchiori Estate but this is a wine--and a site--to follow.
