Château Grand-Puy Ducasse was classified 5th growth in the famous 1855 classification. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are planted on a gravel soil, typical of Pauillac. Thanks to impeccable harvesting and tailor-made winemaking, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse has all the excellent qualities of a legendary fine wine, renowned for aromatic complexity, glorious structure and ageing capacity, all true to the Pauillac's style.

For the vintage, this is a particularly rich wine. It is structured and firm with opulent black-plum fruit that gives the wine a ripe character. Dense with supporting tannins, the wine is going to develop well over the medium term. Drink from 2022.

Ripe and racy, with a graphite streak that drives the core of cassis and plum fruit along, picking up an anise edge on the finish. Not big, but fresh and well-defined. Shows some sneaky grip. Best from 2018 through 2026. 8,335 cases made.

The 2014 Grand-Puy-Ducasse has a conservative, rather backward and tertiary nose that needs to demonstrate more fruit intensity. Pleasant enough, but not as memorable as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, more weight than it demonstrated from barrel, although the second half is very linear and refuses to fan out. It cuts away a little short. Not bad, but there is still room for improvement.
