Achaval Ferrer Malbec 2017
Vinous(14.2% alcohol): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of musky black raspberry, licorice, flowers and soil, plus a sexy hint of gamey, leathery reduction; this is already quite expressive. Wonderfully silky, pliant and sweet but restrained, with black cherry, leather and spice flavors lifted by a touch of minerality. Lovely Malbec with intriguing earth tones. Finishes with broad, seamless, building tannins and excellent length. This strong entry-level Malbec gives me high hopes for the winery's top bottlings from the 2017 vintage.
Wine AdvocateThe straightforward and fruit-driven 2017 Malbec is a blend of grapes from different vineyards, with 50% from their vineyards and the rest purchased, mixing characteristics from different zones. It matured in French barriques for eight months. It's soft and juicy, with round tannins and a pleasant mouthfeel. 320,000 bottles produced.
Wine SpectatorA spicy and fresh-tasting red, with concentrated dark fruit and chocolate flavors supported by firm acidity. Plush finish. Drink now through 2021. 27,000 cases made, 15,000 cases imported.
