The wine balances sandy soil aromatic intensity-tart fruits, floral and spice notes, and an herbal vein-with richer, deeper clay-derived body and depth-cherry compote, dark fruits and obvious texture. There's gorgeous elemental Pinot flavor throughout: zesty, linear and focused with a long granular structure that offers extended aging potential of 10 to 12 years.

Black cherry, game, smoke, licorice and earthy notes all give the 2017 Pinot Noir DuMol Estate Vineyard its distinctive dark, savory personality. The 2017 is not especially forthcoming. I don't think time will change that much. My impression is that the 2017 will always remain dark, savory and searingly tannic.

The 2017 Pinot Noir DuMol Estate Vineyard is more earthy and savory, with a concentrated, foursquare style that's going to benefit from short-term cellaring. Notes of black cherries, bouquet garni, earth, and chocolate all define the bouquet, and it has building tannins, a great mid-palate, and impressive length.
