The Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva shows an intense ruby red color. On the nose, notes of ripe red fruit fuse with hints of vanilla and spices. The palate is ample, enveloping and balanced, but also deep and savory with supple and silky tannins. A wine of real character, with an excellent territorial identity, further characterized by a long and persistent finish and aftertaste.

This wine is made with fruit from the 130-hectare Tignanello estate and is Sangiovese with a smaller part Cabernet Sauvignon. The Marchesi Antinori 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is a dark and sultry expression with a higher degree of evident richness and concentration in this vintage that produced smaller, more compact berries. The tannins stand out tallest here, and there is some bitterness that is more in line with my expectations of the vintage. In fact, among these new Marchesi Antinori releases from 2017, this wine most accurately reflects the hot vintage especially in terms of mouthfeel. There is a pretty menthol note on the close. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, and the wine ages in French and Hungarian oak barrels for one year.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori emerges exclusively from the Antinori family's iconic Tignanello estate. Supple and inviting, the 2017 will be very easy to enjoy upon release. Super-ripe dark cherry, espresso, licorice and sweet spice give this racy, open-knit Riserva a good bit of character. The flamboyant style of the year is very much in evidence.

Aromas of warm spice, French oak, fruitcake and violet are front and center. On the concentrated, firmly structured palate, close-grained tannins envelop flavors of raspberry jam, coconut and baking spice before a coffee-bean close. Drink 2022-2027.

A contemporary style, displaying plum, cherry, leather, resin and vanilla flavors, this is a big red, with tannins that are on the burly side, yet this has ample sweet fruit too. Needs steak. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2033.
