Our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is in many ways the signature of our estate. It is sourced primarily from the oldest vineyard block on our property, a block that was planted in 1982 from field selections taken from two iconic vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma. The vines are nearly 100% dry-farmed, with roots that stretch as deep as 30' into red, volcanic soil. This vineyard block consistently produces a powerful, structured wine with layers of fruit and spice, invariably expressing a beautifully intense blue-black color. This year's incarnation exhibits rich flavors of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, coffee and black tea. The palate is densely structured, yet round and lush with a velvety and not chalky finish. This 2014 Reserve Cab beautifully balances it's weighty seriousness with finesse.

Coming both from Sonoma County and Napa Valley, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers a deep, concentrated, dense style as well as loads of chocolaty dark fruits, black cherry, graphite, scorched earth, tobacco and background oak. It's a rich, full-bodied beauty that shows the more plush side of the vintage in its fruit and texture, yet offers an incredible core of fruit and mid-palate density that's going to allow it to age beautifully. I'd hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 2-3 decades.

Composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, with 66% coming from Sonoma and 34% from Napa, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve displays a very deep purple-black color and nose of crushed red and black currants, black cherries and pencil shavings with touches of cloves, bay leaves, damp earth and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with juicy red and black fruits, supported by silky, silt-like tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long with an herbal lift.

Lavender and licorice combine effortlessly on the nose and entry of this wine, which deserves its reserve billing. Juicy cherry, currant, cedar and dried herb are the highlights, woven around a dense core of generous tannin, richness and density. Enjoy 2024-2034.
