Finca La Celia Reserva Malbec 2014
|Region||Argentina, Uco Valley|
|Brand||Finca La Celia|
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Pioneer Malbec is produced from grapes grown in La Consulta and Altamira cropped from vines planted in 1999. There was some frost in September 2013 that affected the yields of Chardonnay and Malbec in 2014. It fermented in small concrete tanks with neutral yeasts. Some 20% of the wine matured in well-seasoned oak barrels for nine to 12 months, while the rest stayed in concrete. 2014 was the first of three consecutive rainy vintages, so more "European" vintages if you like, especially when you have mineral, stony soils, but with plenty of pitfalls. There is no trace of oak here, it's very fruit-driven, with floral aromas and some notes of orange peel. The palate is juicy and fresh, with some fine-grained tannins. Good value for money. 140,000 bottles produced.
