"2012 was a growing season that really allowed The Grade to showcase the best attributes of the Winfield Vineyard. The year was mild and balanced without any climatic events that force your hand when it comes to a pick decision. That ability for the fruit to fully mature on the vine and ripen evenly is well represented in this edition of The Grade. Sourced from opposite ends of the vineyard from clones 7 and 337, the fruit selected for this vintage represents the highest quality fruit and most diverse soil sections the Winfield Vineyard has to offer. Buoyant aromas of lavender, hibiscus tea and blackberries are present on the nose. The mouth feel of this wine displays a silky set of tannins that are layered with flavors of blackberry, flint, cassis, and fresh loam resonating throughout the palate. Like the vintage itself, this is a very nuanced, balanced wine that is enjoyable now."

Made by brilliant winemaking consultant Thomas Brown, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingly Project (100 cases; aged 20 months in French oak) comes from the Winfield Vineyard, which sits at the alluvial base of Mt. St. Helena. Sweet cassis, graphite, high-class, unsmoked cigar tobacco and background oak characteristics are present in this full-bodied, opulent, multidimensional, majestic Cabernet Sauvignon. It should age effortlessly for two decades.
