Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon 2014This fragrant wine begins with alluring aromas of blackberry, plum and mountain huckleberry intermingled with brighter notes of Bing cherry and ripe wild strawberry. As it evolves in the glass, layers of anise and sarsaparilla are revealed, alongside hints of caramel and espresso from barrel aging. On the palate, the entry is supple, weighty and rounded, with deliciously ripe tannins and juicy acidity coming together to create a classically structured Cabernet. Underscoring its lush character and fruit intensity is a lovely freshness that carries the wine to a bright, lingering finish.

Ulacia Txakolina Rose 2016Wine does not have to be complicated. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Julian and Maia Ulacia's simple but functional winery above the small fishing port of Getaria, a few kilometres along the coast from San Sebastian. A pneumatic press, two rows of stainless steel tanks and a bottling line. And from the tanks flows pale-coloured, refreshingly dry white wine with a hint of spritz and a vibrant citric bite. Unique, original…and delicious with the local tuna and anchovies. But where Ulacia has the edge over neighbouring producers is the quality, concentration and ripeness achieved in the vineyard, and our blind tastings consistently show Ulacia to be the most intense and most complete of Txacoli wines.

Bodegas y Vinedos Maurodos Prima 2014Prima 2014 Region: Toro D.O. Winery: MAURODOS, BODEGAS Y VINEDOS Grapes: 85% Tinta de Toro, 15% Garnacha Vintage: 2014 Color: Red The grapes for Prima are sourced from vines between 10 and 50 years of age. The vineyards for this wine are growing in sandy-clay soils with gravelly subsoils. Vineyards are trained both en vaso and to wire. The younger estate vines were planted at higher density than existing plantings. This 2014 vintage is uniformed in quantity and quality with balanced phenolic ripeness, aromatic intensity, precise fruit, smooth tannins and well measured aging. Winter was relatively warm, with below average rainfall and rapid bud break. Early flowering in the beginning in June due to a frost-free Spring. Veraison came early and harvesting started September 8th. Harvesting took place for four weeks with perfect weather conditions and occasional storms refreshing the grapes, which had no impact on the health of the fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand with a selection of grapes in the vineyard. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled, conical, stainless steel tanks which allow for caps to naturally be broken very softly during pump overs. The wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels of different ages. Bottled in February 2016.
Freelander District One Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is the fourth Cabernet release from Freelander and from California. Aged in and American French oak, it shows massively rich flavors of blackberries and cassis. This medium-bodied wine shows lush mouthfeel, balance and complexity. The ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of toasted oak complete the gentle finish.
Louis M Martini Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015The dark purplish-red hue of our Louis M. Martini Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is indicative of its decadent blueberry and black cherry aromas and flavors. Notes of smoky cedar, dried herbs and licorice unfold around this wine's assertive tannins that will soften with age. Rich and well-structured with a long, lingering finish, this wine is an ideal complement to earthy dishes, wild game and red meats.
Tua Rita Redigaffi 2015In 1984, Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisiti, purchased around 40 acres of land in Tuscany and planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. By 1992 the winery released its first vintage and began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. It Merlot quickly received cult status so much that the 2000 vintage went on to receive a 100 point score by acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker. The silty, clay and mineral-rich soils in Suvereto are reflected in the wines themselves, which are known for showcasing hints of saltiness and unique iron qualities. Along with their highly-praised Merlot, Redigaffi, Tue Rita releases an equally impressive Bordeaux Blend wine called Giustro di Notri, a varietal Syrah called Per Sempre and a varietal Sangiovese called Perlato del Bosco. Because most of the wines are so unique and highly-regarded, it is no surprise that Tua Rita wines are some of the most difficult to find in all of Italy.
Saxum James Berry Vineyard Proprietary Red 2015The wines! Downright beautiful (this is the word of the day). They are open and aromatic, the tannins are soft and supple, they are layered and nuanced beyond all belief. They are already enjoyable. You can drink them while waiting for the 14s to come around. Probably even the 13s and 12s for that matter! On the other hand, I believe they will age magnificently. The balance is perfect.

Devil Proof Vineyards Rockpile Ridge Malbec 2015ROCKPILE RIDGE ROCKPILE, SONOMA COUNTY Devil Proof Malbec, Rockpile Ridge, is a robust and powerful wine from the single vineyard site of Rockpile Ridge, in the Rockpile appellation in Northern Sonoma County, the smallest AVA in the United States. Sitting at an elevation of 1,100 feet, with vineyard rows jutting down at 25-degree slopes towards the Lake Sonoma basin, this dramatic vineyard site provides ideally moderate temperatures, forceful coastal breezes, and well-drained soils. Taking our cues from the site itself, we mold our winemaking to best showcase this complex powerful mountain fruit. This Rockpile Malbec is 100% barrel-fermented to control the power of the site’s tannins but at the same time highlight the intensity and concentration of the fruit. This is the first time I have ever seen a wine that was 100% barrel-fermented, which is such labor-intensive process but one that this site demands so we will do nothing less. With little water retention in the gravelly loam soils to begin with, our practice of dry-farming this vineyard further enhances the naturally occurring stress in the vines. Here, our fruit ripens evenly and deeply. The wine is rich, diverse, and striking, and a true expression of its distinctive vineyard source.
Booker Vineyard White 2016A blend mainly of Roussanne and Viognier, the 2016 White has an alluringly savory nose of lightly browned toast, salted almonds and fresh hay over a core of ripe apricots, poached pears and white pepper. The full-bodied palate has a lovely phenolic grip and seductive oiliness to the texture, with tons of savory-laced stone fruit flavors and great length.

Venge Scout's Honor 2016Aromas of stone fruits, crushed blue herbs, violets, cherry, anise, and a touch of honeysuckle. On the palate is pure richness from the old-vine Zinfandel with loads of super-ripe blackberry, pepper spice, and an enveloping masculinity of char and tannins from the Syrah, Charbono and Petite Sirah. A seamless balance and mouth coating deliciousness are found throughout the palate, with an extra long finish with a touch of barrel tannin at the end.
Disciples 2016Production : 68 barrels To replicate the style and structure of the wines of the G.B. Crane Vineyard we began sourcing from other iconic vineyards in the area. Starting in 2014 with the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford and the Milat Vineyard in St. Helena, these vineyards can be considered "disciples" of the ancient vines of Crane. We continue to source grapes from these two vineyards and have found other such bespoke vineyards to compliment the blend. Every year the search will continue and vineyards will be added. The goal is to create a blend that combines these wines, separate among equals, they are the disciples of Crane. More aromas abound; black plums and boysenberry compote that carry through to the palate that is lush, rich, big and brawny.
