Wine AdvocateLeonardo Fattoi has created a very respectable wine this year. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino shows a darkly saturated appearance with thick density and high-quality aromatic definition. Dark cherry, blackberry and plum build the wine's profile of primary aromas. Added complexity is given by spice, leather and earthy tones of wild mushroom or forest floor. The fruit is soft and succulent, giving the wine an immediately approachable style with tannins that are firm but not astringent.
Wine EnthusiastGrilled herb, dark spice, forest floor, toast and oak aromas lead the nose. The palate is dense, its mature black cherry, espresso, licorice and tobacco flavors drawn tight with close-grained tannins that leave a compact finish. Drink 2022-2027.
