Sine Qua Non has its own winemaking facility in Ventura, not far from the Santa Barbara vineyards where the fruit is sourced from the region's best vineyards. In the last few years Elaine and Manfred have begun creating their own vineyards dedicated to Rhone varietals and now their Cumulus and Eleven Confessions estate vineyards are contributing the majority of the fruit for their wines. Their winemaking philosophy is to work in very small batches, gravity flow, natural yeasts (unless a fermentation problem is anticipated), long lees aging for the whites and repeated racking for the reds to open them up. This is a simplified explanation of a very dedicated and artistic approach to winemaking. The wines are at once very rich and elegant, superbly balanced and thoroughly harmonious with food, never overwhelming. Gift Set includes one magnum Syrah, and one magnum Grenache.

Casal Garcia Vinho VerdeNotes of citrus are amongst the fruity aromas that define the freshness and youth of this limpid and delicate wine. Because of its freshness, Casal Garcia is particularly agreeable in friendly and relaxed atmospheres. Ideal as an aperitif or to accompany oriental dishes, such as sushi and sashimi, seafood in lemon sauce or salads with cheese such as Roquefort. Conservation: Up to 2 years after bottling.
Napanook Red Wine 2015Napanook 2015, with its nose of violet is reminiscent of a fine Pomerol. Delivering fresh blue plums and notes of game, the wine is enveloped in refined tannins and is medium bodied. It displays a sleek finish and a notable length.
Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs 2015The 2015 Blanc de Blancs has bright aromas of apple, tropical fruit and baked bread, which intermingle with hints of lemon blossom, vanilla wafer and baked pear. Candied citrus, green apple, apricot, and pineapple vibrate on the palate, which ends clean and refreshing with a quenching drive. While this wine can be enjoyed by itself as an apÃ©ritif, it is also perfect with fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche and grilled sea bass. It is also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai curries. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses, and as a counterpoint to soft triple creams.

Château-Latour Pauillac 1988 6L BottleThe Grand Vin displays concentrated aromas of coffee, liquorice and truffle, even if its color is still dark rubis. The mouth is very structured, elegant and very concentrated, with a long back-bone of tannins and a persistent finish.
Château-Margaux Margaux 1988 6L BottleThe very deep colour, the rich, intense nose and the magnificent structure on the palate are very reminiscent of the 1986. They have the same powerful, ripe tannins, with perhaps a little less concentration, but also less austerity. Unlike 1986, in fact, 1988 is starting to open out; we can therefore drink it, knowing full well that it will continue to improve for several years -seven or eight at least.
Bogle Merlot 2016Gorgeous in the glass with rich hues of garnet, the first impressions entice with aromas of sandalwood, vanilla and black cherry. The mouthwatering entry is full of red plums and cherries, while the middle palate of the wine softens with touches of cola and a smooth and silky mouthfeel. Notes of baking spices and mocha are left behind by the 12 months in American oak, leading to a lingering, luxe finish. A Few of Our Favorite Pairings: Margherita Pizza. Aged White Cheddar. If You See Kay Red 2016Appearance: The wine is dark purple to the rim. Aroma: Massive ripe black fruit and rich spice aromas that hit you right away. Mouth Feel: Dense blackberry and mocha flavors dominate the palate, the mouth-filling texture is powerful, yet elegant and creamy all the way through. The finish goes on forever, with hints of smoke and grilled meat lingering at the end. Food Pairing: Kay is versatile with all kinds of foods, but pairs best with big, bold flavors.
Justin Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Appearance: Deep purple ruby core, slightly lighter at the rim showing slight staining on the glass. Aroma: Aromatic with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, attractive oak and complex cigar box notes with cocoa and a subtle purple floral note. Palate: Dry, moderate plus bodied, with ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and a touch of red fruit brightness on the entry. Balanced oak, vanilla spice and brioche notes mixed with classic savory cabernet varietal cues mingle on the mid-palate. The finish is moderately long and fresh with sustained rounded fruit and lingering baking spice balanced nicely by firm, smooth tannins.
Layer Cake Shiraz 2015The aromas of cocoa, warm spice and dark fruit are very powerful from the first whiff. In the mouth, the wine is layered with rich blackberry, dark cherries and hints of dark, creamy chocolate ganache. The finish lingers on, hanging on your palate while the fruit and spice flavors slowly change and fade.
Cherry Pie Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir 2015Aroma: Tart cherry and cranberry revealing dried rose petal and forest floor notes. Mouth Feel: Fine-grained tannins, rich texture and spirited acidity poise the wine around a core of bright red fruit. The finish lingers with the lavender and rose petal notes quintessential to Carneros Pinot Noir.
Saxum Paderewski Vineyard 2010 1.5LOur second Paderewski bottling is firing on all cylinders. I backed off on the Syrah and used a lot more Mourvedre, and added a new component, Tempranillo. Yes I know, we are crazy! It's a Zinfandel / Mourvedre / Tempranillo / Syrah / Petite Sirah blend, and it shows its terrior beautifully. What you get from this wine is a taste of the Paderewski Vineyard. It is dark, brooding and muscular, while at the same time jam packed with tons of sweet fruits. There's even a spicy tannic side lurking in there, underneath those fruit flavors. Thanks to the cool, long growing season, it has a wonderful freshness and purity to it combined with great underlying tannins.
Chateau les Rouilleres Bordeaux 2015This wine has cherry color of a medium intensity. It is aromatic with notes of red fruits and spices. The tannis are supple and the wine is fine and balanced. A spectacular Bordeaux from the much heralded 2009 vintage with a level of complexity that far exceeds its humble price point. Goes great with grilled meats and cheese. Saxum Booker Vineyard 2010 1.5LOwned by Eric and Lisa Jensen, the Booker Vineyard is extremely steep and rocky with a mix of calcareous and silicious soils. We lease 2 acres of East facing Syrah that produce extremely concentrated fruit with great acidity, 1 acre of a North West face that we ferment whole cluster to produce a black tannic wine with great texture, and 1 acre of Mourvedre on a South slope that gives wonderful intensity and structure. The resulting blend is very concentrated, with great texture and tons of fruit and spice. We age it for 20-26 months mainly in new 350 Liter French hogshead barrels with extra thick staves. Our wines are never racked off their lees and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2016Colour: Bright garnet. Nose: An immediate ascent of scent - no need to wait or to vigorously swirl this wine to tease out 'what lies beneath'! Dark berry fruits consistent to both varietal persuasions, (cabernet and shiraz), overtly courted by elements of ponzu, soy, sesame and dried shiitake mushroom. Senses are easily conveyed to a forest after rain - wet bracken, liberated mulch, damp soils. Naturally (new and used) oak plays a (minor) role in this fanciful aromatic romp. Palate: Flavours and textures akin to marbled Kobe beef and an earthy accompaniment of black liquorice root and anise. Structurally bold with little protruding - integrated, fine ... and has comfortably already "settled into place". 'Appetising' acidity - a non-intrusive and refreshing granita-like bite/attaque. Assam tea maltiness and tannins merge with impressions of wet slate, pencil lead/graphite ... no doubt somehow linked to earlier partial barrel fermentation and oak maturation. Needs time, as per most Bin 389's at release. Perhaps a little longer for this vintage? Our recommendation - your choice.

Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2014This wine exudes power and elegance. Dense and focused with primary, bright, youthful, fresh characters. Plenty of ripe blue and red fruit accompanied by notes of mocha, carob, butterscotch, and toast. Hints of dried herb and rose petal. Long, clean, and fresh, its strong acid backbone is a hallmark of what will be another long-lived, collectible wine. Discernable tannins that are youthful yet lengthy complement the underlying intense fruit. Great texture! All the promise you like to find in a young wine.

Sine Qua Non Capo Dei Putti Syrah 2014Sine Qua Non was created after the 1994 harvest of a Bien Nacido Syrah which was named The Queen of Spades. Manfred feels strongly that each year, each vintage, is a completely unique wine and thus he gives each wine a unique name. He also creates the artwork for each new label himself. Previously, Manfred had made wines with Bryan Babcock and John Alban. The basic wines have always been a white blend of Chardonnay, Roussanne and Viognier and a red wine based on Syrah plus some Grenache. There are at times small quantities of Rose and a Grenache-based red. They also embarked on a fantastic project with the renowned winemaker Alois Kracher of Austria. The wines are called Mr. K and represent sweet wines made in the world's greatest styles: Eiswein, Vin de Paille and TBA.

Andremily Mourvedre 2015The 2015 Andremily Mourvedre our second offering made from this wonderful grape, shares many similarities to its older sibling, with just a few refinements on the road to total enjoyment. The 2015 Andremily Mourvedre is a blend comprised of 92% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah, and 3% Viognier. It was raised in 100% French Barrique of which 50% were new. The final cuvee' was 70% whole-cluster fermented, and bottled without fining or filtration. The 2015 Andremily Mourvedre is a full-bodied, concentrated, and rich cuvee' that explodes from the glass with scents of espresso, roasted meats, blackberries, and plum, with a firm backbone and lingering finish.

Saxum G2 Vineyard Red 2016It is a truly exotic wine. Not far beneath the core of plum and blood orange there are scents of what I would imagine a Moroccan market would smell like, incense and spice and perhaps a touch of something illegal (at least in most of the US!). I think this wine will reward some patience in the cellar, more so than the other Grenache blends we made in 2016. Give her 3 years to really strut her stuff.
Saxum Terry Hoage Vineyard 2016We found the Grenache to be the super star of the vintage and wanted to preserve its purity and beauty, so we chose to age this blend primarily in 1 large oak Foudre (3000 Liters). This allowed the wine to retain it's energy and precision, even though it's a ripe, juicy, fruit dominated wine. Sticking with the theme of 16, pleasure balanced with intrigue and depth of purity.

It's going to flirt with perfect, 98 JD - One of the finest Bordeaux blends to yet come from these awesome hillsides is the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Ones. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 80% new barrels, this crazy good 2016 boasts a saturated purple color and awesome notes of crème de cassis, blackberries, scorched earth, graphite, and chocolate. It too is a massive, opulent, unctuous beauty and has sweet tannins, thrilling purity of fruit, and terrific overall balance. Hide bottles for 2-4 years and it should keep for 10-15 years, probably quite a bit longer.
