Tasting Notes

The 2019 Pinot noir displays a deep ruby-red color with a pale red rim. Darker than usual notes of black cherry, Santa Rosa plum, black tea, clove, and soy. The aromas render a very deep complex wine that has energy and tautness. Supporting notes of clove, orange rind, fennel, cardamom, and pomegranate add depth and interest. The palate is fresh with lovely vibrancy, leading to a powerful midpalate full of energy and bright red flavors of bing cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate. The tannins are firm but integrated, providing grip and definition. A piquant, long, and persistent finish hints at the age-ability of this wine. Decant and enjoy now or hold for 12 to 15 years in your cellar.

Harvest Notes

Harvested from the 29th of August until the 6th of September in ideal mild weather. The ten different clones of Pinot noir were picked separately but some were co-fermented. Whole cluster fermentation at 70% was employed to extract structure and add complexity to the aromatics. Initially foot trodden for 5 days to express the juice from the skins allowing for 100% native yeast fermentation. Once fermenting, 2 to 4 punch downs a day were used to extract flavor and aroma for a total time of between 21 and 28 days on skins. Basket pressed directly to 70% new Francois Freres cooperage and 30% once used. Nine months on the lees, then racked and blended for another nine months before bottling in April of 2020. Bottle aged for 18 months before release. 698 cases produced.

Concentrated forest floor and wet earth notes bracket the taut dried red fruit flavors, which offer rich, dusty accents. Pure and minerally on the linear finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases made.
