Château d'Yquem
Beautiful golden yellow colour. The nose is concentrated and incomparably pure. It has classic fruit aromas (apricot, fig, and quince) as well as a marked citrus quality (grapefruit). The bouquet is also quite floral, which is very typical of Yquem. There are hints of oak (vanilla and a certain toastiness) to round out the range of fragrances. The bouquet is at the same time very subtle and very elegant.
The wine starts out very round and sweet on the palate. These impressions are immediately followed by a sensation of balance and purity. This is a classic Yquem. There is not too much of anything, nothing is aggressive, yet the wine is full of character and has a long aftertaste. It is extremely attractive as of now, even though its ageing potential is virtually unlimited.
This wine has a great future ahead of it and will be a benchmark for the estate - a great classic.

"Compared with the flamboyant aromatics of the 1997, Yquem's 1996 plays it closer to the vest, although there is a lot going on. Light gold with a tight but promising nose of roasted hazelnuts intermixed with creme brulee, vanilla beans, honey, orange marmalade, and peaches, this medium to full-bodied offering reveals loads of power in its restrained, measured personality. There is admirable acidity, weight, texture, and purity in this impeccably made Yquem. However, patience will be a virtue. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2060.
Note: Yquem spends 42 months in 100% new oak. No cask tasting is permitted, and the wine is not released until 5 years after the vintage. For example, the 1998 will be released some time in 2003; the 2001 will not be released until 2006."

Screw Cap

All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.
